Remote Mapping in Malawi: Supporting Field Operations for the Cholera Outbreak and Cyclone Freddy Response
The Community-Based Flood Early Warning System (CBFEWS) in Malawi, supported by SERVIR and international partners, integrates satellite and ground-based data to provide a 15-day flood forecast, enabling communities to prepare for disasters. Successfully tested during Cyclones Ana and Gombe in 2022, the system saved over $40 million in losses, highlighting the power of collaborative, demand-driven climate adaptation to protect lives and livelihoods.
